October 31, 2015: On a sunny Halloween afternoon in Las Vegas, quarterback Brett Rypien breaks a Boise State and Mountain West freshman single-game record by throwing for 469 yards in a 55-27 win over UNLV.
No doubt, the six sacks Boise State racked up at UNLV last Friday were key to the grinder of a win in Allegiant Stadium. But a case can be made that the zero sacks given up played almost as big a part in Vegas.
October 29, 2004, 20 years ago today: In a record fourth regular season appearance on ESPN from Bronco Stadium, Boise State destroys Hawaii, 69-3, for its 19th straight victory (and 13th straight on the ESPN family of networks).
Ashton Jeanty’s first two carries Friday night went for minus-five yards on Boise State’s first possession of the game. But sandwiched in between was a third-down conversion for the ages, Maddux Madsen’s 49-yard run to the UNLV 26-yard line.
October 25, 2003: “Man was that stupid,” said the Scott Slant column at the time. Visiting San Jose State stomped on the Boise State logo at midfield before the game, and the result was a 77-14 Broncos victory and a school-record for points scored.
October 24, 2014, 10 years ago today: Boise State avenges a 17-point defeat at BYU the previous season by blasting the Cougars 55-30 on the blue turf.
We don’t often dive into individual players among Boise State’s opponents, but UNLV has star power. You can start with quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams, who has really glued the Rebels together since Matt Sluka left in an NIL dispute.
October 22, 1977: In a showdown between the top two teams in the Big Sky, Boise State beats Northern Arizona, 26-13, at Bronco Stadium. That was the night freshman tailback Terry Zahner became the first Bronco ever to rush for 200 yards in a game, going for 205 against the Lumberjacks.
October 21, 2017: Boise State holds future NFL quarterback Josh Allen to 131 yards on 12-of-27 passing in a 24-14 win over Wyoming at Albertsons Stadium.
